How to Create a Free Restaurant Menu QR Code

Updated October 12, 2026 2 min read

A digital menu behind a QR code makes it easy for guests to browse dishes and prices, and saves the cost of reprinting paper menus every time prices change. The catch is that many QR menu services run on subscriptions. When the subscription stops, the codes already stuck on every table stop too.

This guide uses a static QR code that holds your menu link directly, so it never expires.

A QR code only stores the link, so the menu needs to be online first. Common choices:

  • A PDF file in cloud storage, shared so that anyone with the link can view it.
  • A menu page on your restaurant website.
  • A catalog on your business social media account.

Step 2. Create the QR code

  1. Open the QR code generator.
  2. Choose the Text and URL template, then paste your menu link.
  3. Match the colors to your brand and add your logo in the center. When a logo is added, error correction is raised automatically so the code stays easy to scan.
  4. Turn on Frame CTA with text such as "Scan to see the menu".
  5. Download a PNG for printing, or an SVG if your printer needs a vector file.

Step 3. Print for every table

For restaurants with many tables, use bulk mode. Enter the same link on each row with names like "Table 1", "Table 2", and so on. Each table name prints under its QR code, and everything can be printed at once on A4 paper or downloaded as a ZIP.

Placement tips

  • Around 3 to 5 cm works well for table tent cards.
  • Avoid glossy surfaces that reflect lights, because glare makes scanning harder.
  • Always test with a few phones before printing many copies.
  • Keep a few paper menus for guests who prefer not to use a phone.

Why choose a static QR code for menus

Dynamic QR codes let you change the destination without reprinting, but they depend on a third party service that can shut down, start charging, or change its terms. With a static QR code and a stable menu link, you can still update the menu itself without reprinting the code. Read the full explanation in why QR codes expire.
